Peace Corps Work Sectors

Each Peace Corps Prep student will take three (3) UMBC courses and participate in a volunteer or enrichment activity in a Peace Corps Work Sector of their choosing. Courses give the student an opportuinty to develop knowledge and skills in a Peace Corps Work Sector. Volunteer and enrichment programs gives the student an opportunity to develop transferable skills and gain tangible experience and network with like-minded professionals. Volunteer and enrichment activities must total 50 hours or more. These activities may include, internships, study abroad, Alternative Spring Break (as a leader), or Service-Learning (prac 097 through The Shriver Center).

The sector is chosen based on the student’s preference. Choose from Health, Education, Environment, Agriculture, Economic Development or Youth in Development (click on the links below to explore each of these sectors on the Peace Corps Website. Any student who is unsure about whether a course or a volunteer or enrichment activity will qualify for this Peace Corps Prep requirement is encouraged contact any Peace Corps Prep staff member to confirm.
