Peace Corps Prep: Prepare Yourself for International Service and Engagement
Interested? Your first step is to enroll in Prac 103: Intercultural Engagement Prep/Peace Corps Prep!
Peace Corps Prep is a certificate program for undergraduate students that centers on one empowering question: How can you prepare yourself to be the best Peace Corps Volunteer you can be?
There is no right answer to that question, but the Peace Corps has identified four core competencies that are critical to the intercultural fieldwork Peace Corps Volunteers do: 1) focused hands-on engagement, 2) intercultural exchange, 3) professional leadership, 4) foreign language skills.
Build your Skills with Peace Corps Prep
The Peace Corps Prep program creates a framework for you to build these four competencies, integrating coursework with hands-on experience and professional development. Upon completion of the program, you will receive a certificate from the Peace Corps– and a competitive edge when applying for Peace Corps Service.
Peace Corps and UMBC
The UMBC Peace Corps Prep program comes out of a longstanding relationship between the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and the U.S. Peace Corps. UMBC participates in the Peace Corps’ Coverdell Fellows program for graduate students who have returned from Peace Corps service. Now, with Peace Corps Prep, UMBC will be able to use the experience of its returned Peace Corps volunteer (RPCV) graduate students to position undergraduate students as strong candidates for Peace Corps service upon graduation from UMBC.
